Happy New Year!
The first day of 2022 brings with it both a measured hope and an agitated disappointment.
The SARS (Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome) Covid virus that we learned to tolerate in 2020 has made several New Year’s resolutions of its own and here is one of them:
To be fruitful and multiply.
Genesis 1:28: Be fruitful, and multiply, and replenish the earth, and subdue it: and have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over every living thing that moved upon the earth.
The entire role of a pathogen is to replicate. The Omicron variant is doing exactly what it is supposed to do.
Technically, the “Omicron’s 50 genetic changes include more than 30 on the spike protein, the exposed part of the virus that binds with human cells. Scientists expect these changes to make it more transmissible than the dominant Delta variant, and more likely to evade the immune protection provided by vaccines or previous infection.’’

So much of what we have heard about DNA is based on television crime shows. The perpetrators are often caught because they have left a fingernail, saliva, or blood at the crime scene. DNA tests are then utilized to identify a suspect.
However, DNA has another function within the context of the pathogen, the biological organism that is the source of the disease.
What does DNA have to do with it?
DNA has a lot to do with it.
“From the perspective of the virus, the purpose of viral replication is to allow production and survival of its kind. By generating abundant copies of its genome and packaging these copies into virions, the virus is able to continue infecting new hosts.”

If you don’t work in the medical field the best way to think of this is that the original virus is a species of plant. If you plant pink hydrangeas in the spring, you should expect some of them to mutate to blue or white. The way that plants can change their morphology has been known for centuries.
Acknowledging that the virus is exerting itself, as all active diseases do so that it can infect others, is what has to be managed.
Prevent ALL variants of SARS by masking up, getting tested, and getting vaccinated.
Omicron as it inserts itself can be stopped. Concentrate on that.
Your New Year’s Resolutions should be:
- Not to get COVID
- Not to spread COVID
- Get the Vaccine
- Wear a mask
- Continue to social distance
- Destroy the COVID virus
