Ohio’s 2023 voting season is rapidly approaching! Aug. 8 marks the first of a series of elections for our state this year. Yet, the time to register for it is running out. Here are some important dates to ensure your voice is heard this year.

  • July 10: deadline to register to vote for 2023
  • July 11: first day to mail in absentee voting ballots & early in-person voting begins
  • Aug. 1: absentee ballot applications need to be received by your Board of Elections by 8:30 p.m.
  • Aug. 7: absentee voting by mail ends
  • Aug. 8: special election polls are open from 6:30 a.m. to 7:30 p.m.

The sooner you register, the sooner you can begin to vote on the changes you’d like to see. Aug. 8th’s election is concerned with Issue 1 – a proposed constitutional amendment that would increase the requirements to change Ohio’s constitution through ballot initiatives. But, the only way to vote on it is to register by this upcoming Monday!

Additionally, for those just turning 18, Case Western Reserve University’s Center for Civic Engagement and Learning (CCEL) provides a helpful guide to simplify this complicated process. Be sure to visit the CCEL website to find out more about voter eligibility, registration, and options.
