Terry D. Turk, the Founder, visionary, and CEO of Turk Memorial Chapel Funeral Home and Cremation Services, along with his daughter Tyra D. Turk, Co-Founder, Operating Manager, and Chief Embalmer, wanted to be a blessing to the community by having a Toy Drive this holiday season.
The event took place on Sunday, December 19, 2021, from 2 pm until 6 pm at the Funeral Home located at 452 E.152nd, Cleveland, Ohio 44110. The former Zele Funeral Home was purchased in July 2021 by the Turk family.
“This is our first full year in business as a licensed funeral home in the city of Cleveland, and the community has been very kind and supportive to our family business. We wanted to do something to say thank you,” said Mr. Turk.
Tyra, having a young child herself, thought it would be a great idea to have a toy drive to put a happy smile on the children’s faces. She watched her father, and learned the principle of giving to others from the heart. Tyra’s goal was to make sure that at least 200 kids received a toy.
“Well, we didn’t quite reach our goal; however, it was very successful,” Tyra replied.
Closer to the end of the day, some children even received two toys. The only requirement was that the child had to be present to receive a gift. There were 5 tables full of toys and gifts. There were even standing gifts such as bicycles, tricycles, basketball hoops, and sliding boards. Ten children were welcomed at one time, and all they had to do was to pick out the gift they wanted.
The Toy Drive was announced through social media, flyers posted throughout the community, and word of mouth. The Funeral Home, individuals, and B.B.L.O.T.T Inc., a non-profit organization, all donated to this great cause.
Ward 8 City Councilman Michael Polensek stopped by the event to show his support.
